There is a lot of research on this topic and while many that study I/O Psychology or Organizational Development know, most of this research is newer and COVID has changed the entire workforce landscape. The secret sauce to organizational success may be changing but all signs point toward equity as a means to successful adaptation for business models.
Equity, as defined by The Gemini Group LLC, is when your identity can not predict the outcome of _______ (insert whatever outcome you're looking for). In short, when you age, ability, race, economic status, educational attainment, etc., does not predict the outcome of you getting a job, getting a promotion, getting into school, etc., When we level the starting line and provide access to education and knowledge for people to grow (both with technical skills and interpersonal skills), we give them the tools to succeed - increasing engagement which is directly correlated to organization profitability, risk mitigation, turnover mitigation, and community involvement.
There is also a balance that must be maintained as equity, education, and knowledge cost resources and the organization cannot provide without resources to begin with. Maintaining this balance of operational need and employee need requires a team of skilled individuals to monitor programs and adapt when necessary - maintaining an organizational health.
